Artist Statement
As a multidisciplinary artist, my art practice draws from a range of skills across art, craft, and design. I have a particular passion for blending disciplines, especially the combination of science and art. One of my recent projects "Shannon’s Pulse" explores the connection between the human body and the River Shannon, depicting the river as the beating heart of Limerick.

This series was inspired by bacteria and fungi that I cultivated using water samples from the River Shannon and my own saliva. Inspired by the organic, growth patterns of these microorganisms served as my primary source. By observing their unpredictable forms, I developed a series of mixed-media embroidery pieces. Each stitch and texture represents the relationship between the river, the body, and life itself.

Currently, I am shifting my focus to a new campaign that address's the poor living conditions in student accommodations. This project marks the beginning of my exploration into graphic design, an area I am excited to develop further.

About the exhibition

During my third year, as part of my interdisciplinary practice, I had the opportunity to participate in an exhibition held at Spacecraft. The theme was "Limerick Waterways". I focused on the River Shannon, collecting water samples directly from the river to grow my own primary source. The grown bacteria became the foundation of my creative process. The abstract growth patterns of the bacteria guided my artistic journey, transforming scientific exploration into an artistic series.

This experience provided me with valuable insight into the logistics of organising and showcasing an exhibition. It allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of how exhibitions are curated, installed, and presented to the public. Additionally, I thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with my peers, working alongside them to bring our collective visions to life. The process of sharing ideas, providing feedback, and supporting one another fostered a sense of community and highlighted the value of teamwork within an artistic setting.
